This is the plastic composite brush caps, the 2 x motor brushes and the plastic cap you remove when you access head. When cleaning or maintaining the head these items sometimes fail or are lost.

Brushes become worn and begin to no be shaped incorrectly. This will lead to not having full contact to the head, which will slow down performance. You may need to replace the housing as well if you have left it too long to replace or had excessive heat.
